WATCH: Obama Said Crime & Poverty Are Not Qualifiers For Asylum

What’s old is new again and it would seem that the left has a very selective memory when it comes to Barack Obama. While in office, President Barack Obama said that poverty and crime alone are not justifications for asylum claims. His comments are very close to identical compared to the Trump administration. But since it was Obama, of course, it was okay. Not for Trump. Talk about a double standard.

“[U]nder U.S. law, we admit a certain number of refugees from all around the world based on some fairly narrow criteria. And typically, refugee status is not granted just based on economic need or because a family lives in a bad neighborhood or poverty. It’s typically defined fairly narrowly — the state, for example, that was targeting political activists and they need to get out of the country for fear of prosecution or even death,” Obama said in July of 2014. The hypocrisy of the left is stunning, isn’t it? If you put that out there without the source, I bet most leftists would claim it was Trump that said it.

From The Daily Caller:

“The Democratic president even called on asylum seekers to lodge their claims in their own countries.

“There may be some narrow circumstances in which there is a humanitarian or a refugee status that a family might be eligible for. If that were the case, it would be better for them to be able to apply in-country rather than take a very dangerous journey all the way up to Texas to make those same claims,” he said at the time.

“Obama’s comments were made during a joint meeting at the White House with the presidents of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. At the time, the Obama administration was dealing with a migrant crisis of its own. Between the 2013 and 2014 fiscal years, family unit apprehensions at the southern border increased by 361% and unaccompanied alien child apprehensions increased by 77%, according to Customs and Border Protection data.

“The 2014 surge of illegal aliens from Central America — and Obama’s response — loosely mirror the immigration crisis currently taking place under the Trump administration.

“Both administrations are on record criticizing the act of only citing economic conditions or regional violence for U.S. asylum claims. President Donald Trump, for his part, has taken dramatic steps to make asylum seekers file their claims outside the U.S., and has implemented a metering program that reins in the number of asylum applicants who can enter the interior of the country.

“U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services does not grant asylum to foreign nationals who make such attempts, and the agency has cited rules put in place long before Trump entered office.

“Under the asylum law, there are five basis to claim asylum. The first four are pretty straight forward: race, religion, nationality, political opinion. Most of the claims from Central America, the Northern Triangle, don’t fall within those four categories,” a Department of Justice official said to the Daily Caller News Foundation, explaining the asylum application process.

“It is clear under the asylum law that general civil strife, bad economic conditions, private acts of violence, interpersonal disputes, private criminal activity, that sort of thing — those are generally not basis for asylum. So individuals coming from these countries, and that’s by and large what they’re leaving, if they want to claim to remain in the United States or an asylum claim, they have to essentially take that situation and fit it within that fifth category,” the official continued.”

Obama’s interpretation of U.S. immigration and asylum law does not mesh with the feelings of many current Democratic lawmakers who have called for the decriminalization of unauthorized border crossings, the closing of migrant detention centers, and the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. But they don’t bring Obama up – they attack Trump like he is the first to ever do this. The Democrats demand open borders and an end to our sovereignty and this crisis, according to them, is all the Republican’s fault. Psst… Obama, y’all and don’t look in the mirror for the real blame here.

Gee, 2014 is such ancient history… I can barely recall it. What a joke. Everything about the Democrats and the left these days is a flavor of major hypocrisy. I did not like Obama’s stance on illegal immigration. It did not go far enough. Trump’s is better but it could go further as well. Regardless, we need the wall to stop some of this insanity. #WeBuildTheWall

Bernie Sanders: “There Is No Middle Ground,” ‘We’re Going To Stop Using Gas & Coal’

Gotta love when Millionaire communists lecture you on what you can and can’t do. Good thing he will never be elected President!

Via The Daily Caller:

2020 candidate and self-described democratic socialist Bernie Sanders said that the United States has to stop using gasoline and coal, and that “there ain’t no middle ground” on the issue.

“It is no secret that we must transition away from fossil fuels, period. End of discussion. There ain’t no middle ground…There is no middle ground,” Sanders said during a speech Thursday in California.

The Independent Vermont senator released a climate plan Thursday modeled after the “Green New Deal” that called for $16 trillion in new spending to fight climate change.

A key part of the plan is “Justice for frontline communities,” which refers to “under-resourced groups, communities of color, Native Americans, people with disabilities, children and the elderly – to recover from, and prepare for, the climate impacts, including through a $40 billion Climate Justice Resiliency Fund.”

Sanders’ plan, which is modeled as a “Green New Deal,” also targets “environmental racism.”

“The Green New Deal must serve to address modern and historical inequities and environmental racism,” it reads.

Sanders has sought to separate himself from the field of other 2020 Democratic contenders by proposing far-left plans on a variety of issues.

On health care, Sanders supports a “Medicare for All” style plan which would eliminate private health insurance plans and give free health care to illegal immigrants. Continue Reading

Bernie Sanders Says His $16-Trillion Green New Deal-Like Plan Will Create 20 Million Jobs

Via Daily Caller:

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders introduced a $16.3-trillion plan similar to the Green New Deal on Thursday, which he says will create 20 million jobs.

The plan aims to make 100% of energy for U.S. electricity and transportation renewable by 2030 and have “complete decarbonization” by 2050, according to its outline.

“As President, Bernie Sanders will boldly embrace the moral imperative of climate change and mobilize the political will necessary for a wholesale transformation of our society, with massive investments in sustainable energy, energy efficiency, and a transformation of our transportation system,” his plan reads.
