A woman who accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of exposing himself to her in college admitted that she made the allegation “because Senate Democrats came looking for this claim.”
On Sunday, The New Yorker’s Ronan Farrow and Jane Mayer published a report alleging that Deborah Ramirez, 53, accused President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee of exposing himself to her when they both attended Yale in the 1980s.
Farrow appeared on Good Morning America Monday where he was asked why Ramirez came forward.
“She came forward because Senate Democrats came looking for this claim,” Farrow said. “She did not flag this. This came to the attention of people on the hill independently, and it has co cornered her into an awkward position. She said, point-blank, I don’t want to ruin anyone’s life, but she feels this is a serious claim. She considers her own memories credible and she felt it was important to tell her own story before others did for her.”
The news comes as every witness named by Kavanaugh’s first accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, denied being at the party where the sexual assault she alleged took place.
