Lots of interesting stories have been born out of President Trump’s most recent speech to the UN. One of those stories is the “laughter” that apparently erupted as our President was giving his speech. U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley has arguably cleared up any questions on that moment when she said that world leaders laughed because they “loved his honesty” and “respect” him.
Our first lady was asked about her husband’s speech at the UN and she had one word to describe it: “Fantastic!” As Trump spoke of his administration, describing it as one of the most accomplished in the history of the United States, the laughter erupted, so, of course, lesser minds would think it was in disrespect. It was just one word that was needed to get her point across because Melania knows better.
As does Haley.
“They loved how honest he is,” Haley said. “It’s not diplomatic and they find it funny. … When he goes and he is very truthful, they kind of were taken back by it.”
She continued: “All day yesterday, they were falling over themselves to get a picture with him, to talk about how great his speech was. … They love that he’s honest with them and they’ve never seen anything like it, so there’s respect there. I saw that the media was trying to make it something disrespectful. That’s not what it was ― they love to be with him.”
The sparked laughter appeared to catch President Trump off guard, but he responded with class and understood it was a moment of praise from his peers.
“In less than two years, my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country. … So true,” the president said, eliciting several muffled laughs.”
“Didn’t expect that reaction but that’s OK,” Trump responded with a chuckle, prompting even more laughter from the audience of world leaders, their aides, and the media.
First Lady Melania Trump was there to support her husband’s address of the global governing body. When this all went down she was in the audience looking stunning in a black utility dress synched with a matching black belt and six-inch heels. She never disappoints with her classy style.
Of course, she is not the only one who supports President Trump’s speech. Israel is very happy with what they heard at the global meeting as well.
“Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said it has been a long time since there was a world leader who understood the Middle East as well as Trump and he hopes other leaders will “listen and internalize” Trump’s words.”
“We saw an impressive speech today by US President Donald Trump at the club of hypocrites and sycophants called the ‘United Nations,’” Lieberman tweeted.
“For years there has not been a leader on the world stage that understands the Middle East, deals with the Iranian threat and lays down red lines for [Syrian President Bashar] Assad,” he said.
There was also talk during his speech about future funding in foreign aid.
“Earlier this month, Ambassador Nikki Haley announced that the U.S. would no longer give money to people who are against the U.S., or say, ‘Death to America.’ or do anything that would be anti-U.S.”
Trump echoed this in his speech and said that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will be looking into cutting U.S. foreign aid to countries who do not have “our interests at heart.”
“Moving forward, we are only going to give foreign aid to those who respect us and frankly our — our friends,” he said. “And we expect other countries to pay their fair share for the cost of their defense.”
There were many strong points given during President Trump’s speech that most likely contributed to Melania’s proud moment for her husband and his “fantastic” speech.
“President Trump excoriated the “ideology of globalism” and multinational authorities, underscoring the importance of national sovereignty and need for countries to pay for their own defense in his address before the United Nations General Assembly in New York Tuesday.
“The president’s second address before the body since taking office was marked by the president’s insistence that other nations look out for themselves and their own interests, and allow the United States to do the same.
“I honor every nation to pursue its own customs, beliefs and traditions. The United States will not tell you how to live or work or worship,” Mr. Trump said. “We only ask that you honor our sovereignty in return.”
“Mr. Trump said the United States “will not be taken advantage of any longer,” criticizing how he believes other nations have ripped the U.S. off on trade and defense spending.
“All nations of the world should resist socialism and the misery that it brings to everyone,” Mr. Trump said, using Venezuela as an example of how he believes socialism destroys nations.”
