I was deeply moved by President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump’s observance of 9/11 yesterday. You could tell how much it meant to them and in turn, that meant the world to Americans. On such a somber day, it is comforting to have a strong president once again at the helm.
First Lady Melania Trump looked elegant and fashionable as usual. She chose a patriotic and classy outfit to attend ceremonies marking the 17th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks. But it seems as if everyone missed the huge message she was going for with her outfit. It was one of deep abiding respect for those we lost on 9/11.
The first couple was photographed constantly as they boarded Air Force One to travel to Shanksville, Pennsylvania for a memorial ceremony. In a lonely field there, one of the hijacked planes on 9/11 went down as heroic passengers fought back against the hijackers. They undoubtedly saved many lives by sacrificing their own that fateful day.
Melania wore a striking navy blue trench coat with white trim that came down to just below her knees. It was respectful and regal. She also wore matching stiletto heels for the occasion. The coat had a tie-waist belt and buttons that went all the way to the hem. It was meant to show deep respect for those who gave their all on 9/11 and to their families.
The president and first lady were endlessly photographed before and after landing in Johnston, Pennsylvania. President Trump and Melania greeted supporters on the tarmac. Trump hugged one young man who was holding a “Make America Great Again” hat. I loved every minute of it.
Melania’s outfit, although somber in nature, was a fashion statement all by itself. She shares the effortless fashion sense of Jackie Kennedy. Her outfits are always tasteful but embrace high fashion at the same time.
And yet there are critics out there that are labeling Melania’s tweet before going to the memorial as ‘narcissistic’ rather than patriotic imagery or art specific to the lives lost on Sept. 11. She just can’t get a break… it doesn’t matter what she says, does or wears, the leftists will find fault with it.
Melania isn’t alone in getting flak over her Sept. 11th tweet. President Trump’s tweet referencing the anniversary has been criticized for seeming overly enthusiastic and tone-deaf. Trump said, “17 years since September 11th!” I don’t find it tone-deaf at all. He made a statement on Twitter, get over it.
Later Melania doubled down with another image of herself and President Trump. She wrote: “A somber tribute at Flight 93 National Memorial this morning. We honor the many lost at the hands of evil on 9/11. It’s a time to remember the strength of this nation & the power that comes from unity, leadership & courage. God Bless this great nation. #NeverForget.”
That was a wonderful sentiment and statement just as her outfit was and the left relentlessly ripped her over it because she didn’t show the towers and for a whole host of other reasons. The hate shown towards the Trumps is just unfathomable.
The media would have been better served to note President Trump’s heartfelt speech and to tell the truth about how he and the first lady felt about the events of 9/11.
From USA Today:
“Referring to the dead in New York City and at the Pentagon as well as Pennsylvania, Trump said, “We honor their sacrifice by pledging to never flinch in the face of evil and to do whatever it takes to keep America safe.”
“The president devoted most of his remarks to the passengers of Flight 93.
“After hijackers flew planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, 40 passengers and crew aboard Flight 93 – believed to be headed to the U.S. Capitol or the White House – organized a charge into the cockpit to confront their captors.
“Amid the struggle, which started with the phrase “Let’s roll,” the plane crashed into a field in Somerset County, north of Shanksville.
“It was “the moment when America fought back,” Trump said, and the Flight 93 passengers “joined the immortal ranks of American heroes.”
“Trump also told stories about individual passengers and their loved ones: the flight attendant who called her husband and said they were preparing to throw hot water on the hijackers; a man who told his wife “Stay on the line” because “I’ll be back”; passengers who recited the Lord’s Prayer; a woman who recovered her husband’s wedding ring 2½ months after the attack.
“This field is now a monument to American defiance,” Trump said. “This memorial is now a message to the world: America will never, ever submit to tyranny.'”
President Trump and First Lady Melania did America proud yesterday despite what you will read in the leftist media. They remembered the courage and sacrifice of the fallen and the depthless evil of our attackers. Maybe their message wasn’t missed after all.
