Deceit for the purpose of political gain is one of history’s most recurring crimes. The only thing more frustrating than a deceiver and a slanderer is those foolish enough to listen to them. Yet every day we see evidence that with enough mental gymnastics, just about any fact can be twisted in such a way as to favor one’s confirmation bias.
In a story chock full of inconsistencies, Christine Blasey Ford is the first woman to accuse Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh of drunkenly groping her after pushing her into a bedroom at a high school party when he was just 17-years-old. She was 15-years-old… she thinks. She is not entirely sure of when exactly these events occurred but claims it was sometime in the 1980s.
She has been largely unable to produce any sort of credible and solid evidence to back up her very serious accusations against Kavanaugh. In fact, all four people Blasey Ford has named as being present for the alleged assault have failed to corroborate her version of events.
Leland Ingham Keyser – a “longtime friend” of Blasey Ford’s said through her attorney in an email sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee:
“Simply put, Ms. Keyser does not know Mr. Kavanaugh and she has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present, with, or without, Dr. Ford,” said Keyser’s attorney Howard Walsh, who has been “engaged in the limited capacity” of corresponding with the committee on behalf of Keyser, according to Politico.
Kavanaugh and Mark Judge were also named as present in the room by Blasey Ford during the alleged sexual assault. Both men have stated that they have no recollection of the incident. A third man was also named by Blasey Ford by the name of Patrick J. Smyth, who also denies any recollection of the event.
He said in a statement to the Judiciary Committee:
“I understand that I have been identified by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford as the person she remembers as ‘PJ’ who supposedly was present at the party she described in her statements to the Washington Post,” Smyth wrote in his statement.
“I am issuing this statement today to make it clear to all involved that I have no knowledge of the party in question; nor do I have any knowledge of the allegations of improper conduct she has leveled against Brett Kavanaugh.”
“Personally speaking, I have known Brett Kavanaugh since high school and I know him to be a person of great integrity, a great friend, and I have never witnessed any improper conduct by Brett Kavanaugh towards women. To safeguard my own privacy and anonymity, I respectfully request that the Committee accept this statement in response to any inquiry the Committee may have.”
Meanwhile, the prosecutor hired by the Senate Judiciary Committee, Rachel Mitchell states Blasey Ford’s sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh would not hold up in court.
Mitchell wrote in a letter to the committee stating: “I do not think that a reasonable prosecutor would bring this case based on the evidence before the Committee.”
She explains the difficulty in proving a “he said, she said” case such as this, and states that Blasey Ford’s claims are even “weaker than that” as was the evidence presented before the Senate Committee. If it was presented in a court of law, it would by no means meet the preponderance-of-the-evidence standard used in civil proceedings.
As a result of the significant shenanigans, outright slander, and lies being perpetuated by Democrats against Kavanaugh and his family currently in an effort to prevent his nomination, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-KY) vowed to launch a thorough inquiry.
Graham plans to investigate the Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee in an effort to determine if any malfeasance took place regarding how Blasey Ford’s sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh were managed.
The Daily Wire reports:
“Graham appeared on ABC News‘ “This Week” to discuss Thursday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearings, and doubled down on harsh comments he made during his opportunity to question Kavanaugh, accusing Democrats of malfeasance, and implying that Dr. Ford was railroaded by operatives.
“We’re going to do a wholesale, full-scale investigation of what I think was a despicable process to deter it from happening again,” Graham said.
“The FBI will do a supplemental background investigation, then I’m going to call for an investigation of what happened in this committee. Who betrayed Dr. Ford’s trust?” he continued. “Who in Feinstein’s office recommended Katz as a lawyer? Why did Ms. Ford not know that the committee was willing to go to California?”
“Graham was referencing several odd statements made during her testimony Thursday.
“Although Senate Judiciary Committee aides offered several options to Dr. Ford, allowing her to testify under oath near her home in California or in private, Dr. Ford seemed at a loss when asked why she chose to testify in D.C. in front of cameras. It seemed that Dr. Ford’s attorneys hadn’t told her she had a choice.”
Graham made further headlines when he identified NBC as a “co-conspirator” in the “destruction” of the Supreme Court nominee in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity.
He stated: “NBC, they’ve been a co-conspirator in the destruction of Kavanaugh from my point of view,” he said. “… do you think NBC would’ve done that if this had been a Democratic male nominee? All I can say is that there the journalistic integrity has been destroyed over this case.”
Graham is angry and is channeling that anger into doing everything in his power to right this terrible wrong being committed against Kavanaugh and his family. He lambasted his colleagues across the aisle for sitting on allegations of sexual assault levied against Kavanaugh by Blasey Ford for weeks.
In a blistering tirade, Graham stated in no uncertain terms: “If you wanted an FBI investigation you could have come to us. What you want to do is destroy this guy’s life, hold this seat open, and hope you win in 2020. You’ve said that, not me. This is the most unethical sham since I’ve been in politics and if you really wanted to know the truth, you certainly wouldn’t have done what you did to this guy.”
He added: “Boy y’all want power, God I hope you never get it. I hope the American people can see through this sham, that you knew about it and you held it, you had no intention of protecting Dr. Ford, none! I hate to say it because these have been my friends, but if you were looking for a fair process, you came to the wrong town at the wrong time.”
And now, McConnell begins the final round of the confirmation battle by filing for cloture to ensure a final vote on President Donald Trump’s nominee by the end of this week.
I just filed cloture on Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court. There will be plenty of time for Members to review and be briefed on this supplemental material before a Friday cloture vote.
— Leader McConnell (@senatemajldr) October 4, 2018
“Shortly before 10:00 p.m. in a night session on Wednesday, McConnell filed a motion for cloture, to limit debate on the Kavanaugh nomination and force a final vote as to whether Judge Kavanaugh will become Justice Kavanaugh.
“At the insistence of Sens. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Senate leadership allowed an extra week for additional investigation into Kavanaugh. President Trump ordered the Federal Bureau of Investigation to expedite the Senate’s request, and to conclude its work by this Friday. The FBI finished its work early, and consequently senators can review the supplemental report beginning Thursday morning.
“Under Senate rules, the motion must now “ripen” for a day. The full Senate will vote early on Friday on the motion. Although cloture requires 60 votes for legislation, only 51 votes are required for presidential nominees to judicial or executive office.
“If cloture is invoked Friday morning, the final vote on confirmation will come late on Saturday afternoon.”
