NYT: Kavanaugh Makes SCOTUS History With Clerk Appointments
Eyes open! High alert! Watch for this headline anytime now: Feminists Do About Face — Come Out Hailing Kavanaugh Confirmation
Just kidding — that won’t be happening in the foreseeable future; or perhaps ever.
Ed Morrissey, writing at Hot Air says:
“Brett Kavanaugh hit the ground running this weekend after the Senate finally confirmed him to the Supreme Court. … Justice Kavanaugh showed up yesterday in chambers, scoring a historic first with his choice of clerks, as the New York Times’ Adam Liptak reported:”
“A day after the bitter fight over his nomination ended in his elevation to the Supreme Court, Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh was in his new chambers on Sunday … Justice Kavanaugh met with his four law clerks, all women — a first for the Supreme Court …”
Your eyes ain’t deceiving you, you read that right. Freshly minted Supreme, Brett Kavanaugh, has a quarter of all-female individuals clerking for him.
“Justice Kavanaugh said in his testimony last month that he had started to take action to address the underrepresentation of women among law clerks after reading a 2006 article in The New York Times noting that only seven of 37 Supreme Court clerks were women.”
“A majority of my 48 law clerks over the last 12 years have been women,” he told the Senate Judiciary Committee. “In my time on the bench, no federal judge — not a single one in the country — has sent more women law clerks to clerk on the Supreme Court than I have.”
“This term, six of his former clerks are working at the Supreme Court, double the number of any other appeals court judge. Four of them are women.”
“Kavanaugh had testified about this in his hearing in one of the more substantive moments in a ridiculous circus,” reminds Morrissey, “a moment that had been mainly forgotten until yesterday.”
And how about this gem from the Hot Air piece? One of those former clerks now doing duty at the Supreme Court is African American Kim Jackson (Yale Law, ’17).
This revelation sparked Case Western Reserve University School of Law Professor Jonathan H. Adler to jibe, “This term, Justice Brett Kavanaugh has already hired as many African-American law clerks as Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has in her entire 25-year tenure.”

Oh. In the legions of Liberaldom, that one’s gotta leave a mark.
For those advocating opportunities in high places for women – versus simply mouthing man-hating, Kavanaugh-despising, ill-informed, rah-rah-ladies platitudes – things only get better.
“National Law Journal’s Marcia Coyle … points out that Kavanaugh has a long history of diverse selection of clerks, not just demographically but also ideologically:” (Morrissey)
“On the D.C. Circuit, Kavanaugh hired 25 women and 23 men as law clerks. His four clerks from 2014 to 2015 were women, and 21 of the 25 he hired went on to U.S. Supreme Court clerkships. His 48 clerks represented diverse background and viewpoints.” (Coyle)
And for those hung up on the “diversity” thing, Coyle provides this detail:
“Kavanaugh sent 39 of his 48 clerks to the Supreme Court, including clerks serving justices in the current term. Although most of those clerks have gone to the conservative justices—with Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. hiring 13, the largest number—Kavanaugh sent two each to justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, and one to Stephen Breyer. “
Now, those who worship at the court of diversity, who contend that quality is a virtue ipso facto, in and of itself, this ought to be heartening news, indeed. Frankly, the Sotomayor and Kagan element leaves me rather cold – if diversity includes the propagation of foul ideas, I don’t have any enthusiasm for it, period.
Still, all this rather jams up the uncritically and unbrokenly reiterated narrative of the rabid bands we bespied very recently in the Senate, raging outside the Supreme Court and populating the mainstream news and opinion media, doesn’t it:
Kavanaugh the woman-abusing Neanderthal!
Kavanaugh the pampered, white-bread, probably racist boy!
Kavanaugh the skulking menace to America’s future!
Turns out, for quite a while now he’s been a big booster of advancing the distaff set. He doesn’t look down on women! And it would appear skin-color isn’t a disqualifying factor in his book, either. Not that any of this – not one scurvy angstrom of it – was ever indicated in any way about the married father of two daughters. These shabby accusations were as baseless as so much of what has been ignominiously trotted out against him the past several weeks.
And notwithstanding my snarky first sentence, I wouldn’t expect many among the Leftist elite or their shock troops will bother noticing and changing their tune about the fifty-three-year-old jurist whose life they assiduously endeavored to steamroll as soon as he was announced as Supreme Court nominee.
As we well know, facts don’t do much to ding the ideological armor of anti-constitutionalist statists.
If they did, Lefties would already be pretty reelingly banged-up after only Justice Kavanaugh’s first couple days in office.
