WATCH: CNN Commentator Angela Rye Says MAGA Hat Just As ‘Triggering’ As KKK Hood

CNN is really stepping in it this week. On CNN’s “Cuomo Prime Time” the panel laid into the controversy surrounding Covington Catholic high schoolers’ encounter with a Native American protester, Nathan Phillips. CNN commentator Angela Rye flatly stated that she just could not get past high school junior Nick Sandmann wearing a MAGA hat. Then she dropped a bombshell by admitting that it is “as maddening and frustrating and triggering for me to look at as a KKK hood.” Sounds like she’s taking her cue from Alyssa Milano.

Host Chris Cuomo was predictably snarky, suggesting that Trump was being disingenuous in his outrage over the media’s libelous reporting on the incident. On cue, Rye agreed with him but then went on about the “standoff” between the teens and activist Nathan Phillips being effectively a Rorschach test of people’s ideological perspectives. No, it wasn’t.

“I wish that for one moment we can talk about what we see. People are talking about what is happening right now as a result of this particular incident is our varying perspectives, and I think that’s such a powerful point,” Rye said.

“Forget Donald Trump for a moment, and just think about that symbol of that red hat,” sneered Rye. “When I see the ‘Make America Great Again’ hat now, Chris, I am triggered. I’m so triggered.” This woman needs professional help.

From The Daily Wire:

“Rye then turned to fellow commentator Andre Bauer, who often defends the president, and said, “Andre, I think in a lot of ways our friendship has been compromised by the fact that you continue to support this man.” She followed that up by giving him credit for sometimes calling out Trump, but making sure to say that she disagrees with him on this issue.

“Red hats, she emphasized, were now as much a symbol of hate as the notorious white hoods of the Ku Klux Klan. “This Make America Great Again hat is just as maddening and frustrating and triggering for me to look at as a KKK hood,” Rye said. “That is the type of hatred that [Trump’s] policies represent. And until we can have common ground and understanding about that, that it’s that triggering, we’re going to continue to have problems.”

These teens have been slandered and libeled all over the place in the media and on social media. They were themselves the target of racism and hatred. They were doing cheers like they do every year except this time they were also trying to drown out the hate coming at them from extremist groups. In true leftist fashion, the actual victims have been tried and found guilty simply for being set up by these shrews. The radical racist group Black Hebrew Israelites has been designated a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center. After being called “f*ggots” and “crackers” and being told to “go back to Europe,” the boys began doing their chants and cheers in a form of self-defense.

The Native American Phillips was the antagonist here and he’s been lying his head off at every turn. He told the media the boys were the aggressors and should be expelled. He described them as “beasts” ready to pounce on their “prey,” and a “mob” poised to “lynch” minorities. None of that was even remotely true.

I was chagrined to see one teen, Nick Sandmann, give an interview to NBC’s Savannah Guthrie. I can understand wanting to clear his name but there is no way his parents should have let Nick swim in those shark-infested media waters.

“Do you feel from this experience that you owe anybody an apology? Do you see your own fault in any way?” Guthrie suggestively asked Sandmann in the interview. She laid her trap beautifully but Sandmann couldn’t have known that.

“As far as standing there, I had every right to do so,” the boy replied. “My position is that I was not disrespectful to Mr. Phillips — I respect him, I’d like to talk to him. In hindsight, I wish we could have walked away and avoided the whole thing, but I can’t say that I’m sorry for listening to him and standing there.”

That was the truth but it won’t matter… no matter what the teen said he’ll be pilloried in the media for it. The real racists and hatemongers… not so much. And the left will continue to be triggered by red MAGA hats. Judge a man not by the color of his skin or the content of his character… judge him on the color of his hat of all things.
